Since 1996, the Hispanic Theological Initiative (HTI) has been committed to strengthening theological and religious education in ways that serve the growing Latine communities across the United States and in the world. HTI cultivates a vibrant network of scholars, educators, and institutional partners whose scholarship, leadership, and service contribute to the flourishing of Latine churches, communities, and the broader society.
Headquartered at Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey, HTI is an ecumenical, multi-ethnic, and multi-denominational initiative that collaborates with institutions across the country. Through its consortium of schools (HTIC), currently composed of twenty-two Ph.D.-granting institutions, HTI fosters partnerships that support the development of scholars and leaders whose work engages the histories, cultures, and lived realities of Latine communities.
HTI and its Consortium advance their mission through three interconnected commitments:
- Strengthening Latine faith communities and the wider public by supporting scholars and leaders whose teaching, research, and public engagement address the needs, experiences, and contributions of Latine communities.
- Expanding pathways into theological and religious scholarship so that Latine perspectives, histories, and theological insights are more fully represented within academic institutions.
- Creating a collaborative forum for institutions, scholars, and partners to exchange ideas, research, and best practices that support the vitality of Latine communities and their institutions.
